Working to Build a Humane Community for Animals

About Us

PEOPLE FOR ANIMALS works to improve the lives of animals in our community and beyond. All our programmes are driven by our belief in the intrinsic dignity and sanctity of animal life.

The Raahat Animal Hospital and Recovery Center houses majorly sick animals. It is also a permanent sanctuary for the very old, infirm, and a sanctuary for the farmed animals and the special need animals.

Our work include rescue, relief and rehabilitation of homeless and abandoned animals in distress. We implement Birth Control and Anti-Rabies Programme for community dogs and encourage responsible animal guardianship. We fight against animal cruelty, work for the implementation of Animal Protection Laws, promote humane treatment of animals and support environment conservation initiatives.

We support other social / animal welfare organizations with similar objectives.

PEOPLE FOR ANIMALS is the first Animal Shelter cum Veterinary Facility in the state. We run the only Small Animal Rescue Service in Uttarakhand which attends emergencies in and around Dehradoon.

A 24 x 7 admission facility for homeless animals in distress.

While our rescue hours are from 10am-6pm, the admission is open 24×7. Every month scores of animals, victims of abuse, neglect and cruelty, find relief and refuge at People for Animals. With housing space available for 100 plus animals, there is an ever present need further infrastructure development so that we are able to reach out to larger number of animals that may be in distress.

People for Animals is also a permanent sanctuary for the very old and the special need animals.

Sanctuary for Special Need Animals

We follow a policy of rescue, treat & release with regard to our in-house patients. However, People for Animals is a lifetime sanctuary for special need animals, the old and the ones who, if released, would run the risk of getting slaughtered.

A clinic for the treatment of homeless and owned animals

We run a fully functional clinic, with a full time veterinarian, para-vets, surgery & dispensary, for homeless as well as companion animals. The income generated from the out-patients helps sustain our welfare programmes for community animals. In our effort to encourage responsible animal ‘guardianship’, No cost treatment & surgical facility is provided to the animals of B.P.L. (below poverty line) families. A new OPD cum Grooming is proposed to further strengthen revenue generation and make the Facility self sustainable.

Rescue Service for Animals (small)

We run the only rescue service for small animals in Uttarakhand. The Rescue Service is privately managed & funded. The only rescue service of its kind in Uttarakhand, it attends all species of small animals in distress. We have successfully rescued and rehabilitated thousands of animals (small & large) since 2005.
